Gone are the days of old-world charm, sepia tones, and 1970s Hollywood glamour. Or are they? Google’s Gemini 2.5 Flash Image, also known as Nano Banana, can make those gone-by days feel alive on your social media feed. Google launched Nano Banana in August 2025 as an AI image-generating and editing tool, part of their Gemini line of artificial intelligence products.

Since its debut day, until September, people have edited over 500 million images using the Gemini app! Nano Banana, made specifically to take image editing a step ahead, has some pretty agile use cases. Before I share some useful prompts for you to try, we will know what Nano Banana is, how it works, popular use cases, prompts to try Nano Banana for yourself, examples of ‘use-only’ prompts, and the importance of using prompts. Since there’s so much to cover, let’s just dive right in, starting with the basics.

What is Google’s Nano Banana?

Google launched its AI image editor and generator, Gemini 2.5 Flash Image, in August 2025. Since then, it has become a sensation for creating and editing images, videos, collages, figurines, and whatnot! Nano Banana is currently available on Google AI Studio, the Gemini app, and through Vertex AI.

What makes it special is that it can use your uploaded image (or not) to recreate different moods, seasons, styles, eras, themes, etc. You do not always need to upload personal photos. Instead, you can just add prompts and have Nano Banana generate the entire image from scratch.

It can transform 2D images into enriching and in-depth visuals by evaluating texture, contour, light & shadow, pose, and others. As it’s currently trending, you can transform a simple image into a retro one by increasing grain, selecting suitable color palettes, incorporating mood lighting, and applying visual effects. Let me tell you this: you have never seen an image editor as intuitive and as detailed as Nano Banana before. The simplicity of the interface, the user-friendly features, and efficiency make it an ideal tool for beginners and the young generation.

How Does Nano Banana Work?

Nano banana AI uses a combination of neural rendering, computer vision, and style transfer to recreate the ‘prompted’ vibe from your photograph. For the image editing details, I’m using ‘old-world Hollywood’ as an example prompt. Let’s take a look at how it happens:

  • User uploads the image. Nano Banana examines the image with facial and object detection. It recognizes vital details like background, lighting, contour, and expressions.
  • Now the style transfer models do their work. They start by mapping iconic old-world Hollywood elements, such as grainy textures, oversaturated colors, and over-the-top lighting.
  • At this stage, neural rendering does its job by polishing the result, adding noise, color grading, depth shadows, and a style that mimics the 1970s photography style and essence.
  • The final render takes place to give you a polished retro image frame with all the vivid details of the 1970s Hollywood era.

Once you get the final image, you can either share it on social media for the world to see or create a poster with it.

Popular Use Cases of Gemini 2.5 Flash Image

We will understand how Google’s Nano Banana can be used for various purposes.

1. Nano Banana for Video Generation

Today, using AI models, we can generate only 8-second-long videos. To create a long video, you need to stitch multiple 8-second videos together. This process is inefficient, time-consuming, and hinders character consistency in the final video. Using Nano Banana, you can keep the model’s character consistency throughout the long-form video, ensuring that you have a great starting frame for every video.

2. Using Nano Banana for Virtual ‘Try-Ons’

In this era of online shopping, almost all of us at some point ponder, ‘How will it look on me?’ To take this confusion out of the picture, you can use Nano Banana. Just upload an image of yourself and the clothing/ any item you want to ‘try on.’ Now merge the images.

3. Nano Banana for Interior Designing & Editing

Before the AI image editor, understanding what looks good in a room and what else can be added to elevate the interior decor was a challenge. The entire process of interior designing was highly manual and time-consuming to alter in case of any changes. With Google AI Studio, you simply upload the images of the room (the scene) and the product. Now, drag the product image onto the image of the room, and place it where you like most. Nano Banana will fuse them, and you will have a clear view of how things look.

These are some of the hundreds of Nano Banana use cases that you can try for yourself. Some others include creative editing, maintaining character consistency, and so many more.

Nano Banana Prompts To Try For Yourself

In this section, I have curated a series of retro prompts for you to try. Select the one that suits your style the best, or not, experiment, and experience the magic of editing on Google’s Nano Banana.

Prompt 1: Hollywood Retro Look

The scene starts in a New York retro-style theater. A premiere of a 1970s film, sequinned gowns, neon marquee, vintage film posters on walls.

The subject is wearing quintessential 1970s fashion: a sequinned gown, a fur stole draped over the shoulders, high heels, a big & voluminous wavy hairstyle, bold eye makeup, and glossy lips to complete the look.

The surroundings will include paparazzi with vintage cameras, flashing lights, fans reaching out, and a red carpet.

Tones will be 1970s warm tones, contrast, and cinematic grain. The ambiance will be larger-than-life, flashy, and stylish – a star making a grand entry.

Prompt 2: Portrait in Paris at Night

The scene starts in front of Paris’s iconic Arc de Triomphe, fully visible in surrounding lights, in the center of the frame, in the background of the subject. On the right side, the ‘Place Charles de Gaulle’ street sign is clearly visible on a vintage lamppost.

The color and lighting will be warm night lighting with orange-yellow glows from street lights. Capture the original image’s grain and soft shadows. Add deep shadows, warm-tone highlights, and some muted tones to bring out a cinematic, moody effect.

Dress the subject in a blue denim jacket, with a red cardigan beneath it. The lower portion of the blue denim needs to be almost visible. Maintain the outfit’s natural fabric-like texture and folds consistent with real fabric physics under the same lighting.

The subject will be facing upwards at a roughly 45-degree angle, head tilted, eyes closed serenely, and in an introspective expression. The camera angle will be a bit low, tilted upward. The photo must capture the chest-up view of the subject, from the left side, in a three-quarter profile. The pose will be relaxed with shoulders slouched (a bit), hands in jacket pockets, displaying a quiet and reflective mood.

Prompt 3: Monochrome Portrait

Create an epic black and white, close-up portrait of the uploaded image. Make the hair wet with water dripping on the face, neck, and shoulders, in a serene way. Add dramatic monochromatic lighting with sharp features. Add wet-looking lips, striking eyes, and real skin texture. Use this uploaded image to add 4K details, hyper-realistic, high contrast, studio shot, and cinematic look.

  3. A hyper-realistic figure of a chef, wearing chef’s cloths, an apron, a chef’s hat, holding a rolling pin in one hand and a freshly-baked bread in the other hand. With a happy expression, background of a bakery, with a dusting of flour on the hands and apron.

Prompts for Actions & Environments

  1. A yoga figurine on a serene beach, with sandy surroundings, in a driftwood style, with a calm facial expression, eyes closed, the horizon visible far away.
  2. A knight in silver, polished armour, on a horse, bending down to pet a furry dog, with a background of snow-capped mountains and pine forest.
