Apple has existed in the technology world for quite a long time. It is famous among the majority of people due to its popular gadgets.
Over the past few years, the world has witnessed a massive development in artificial intelligence by companies like Google, OpenAI, and Samsung. In comparison, Apple’s assistant Siri hasn’t changed much. Many users feel it is still struggling to give useful answers or handle complex questions.
Apple’s CEO, Tim Cook, recently said he sees AI as a big deal, just as big as the internet was when it first came around.
Following this, Apple has made a team called AKI, which stands for Answers, Knowledge, and Information. Their job is to build a smarter system that can talk to people more naturally and helpfully. It is still in progress. It could either become a new app or be added to Siri. The team is led by Robby Walker, who also helped build Siri in the past. Apple is hiring more experts to help grow the project.
Not long ago, Apple didn’t believe people wanted chatbots. But as tools like ChatGPT became popular, that view shifted. Now, Apple seems more interested in building its tools instead of depending on companies like Google or OpenAI.
Apple Intelligence and User Control
At its 2024 developer event, Apple introduced a set of features called Apple Intelligence. This tool is meant to help with writing, summarizing messages, and even creating images.
Apple has also teamed up with OpenAI to bring ChatGPT to Siri, but it will only activate if you allow it.
How Apple Got Here?
Apple first started using AI in a visible way when it introduced Siri back in 2011. However, Siri was not always able to make out natural speech and accents.
In 2017, Apple included the Neural Engine in the iPhone X. This was useful in areas like facial recognition and faster AI processes.
Between 2016 and 2020, Apple acquired a number of AI companies and built internal teams of developers. The rise of ChatGPT in 2022 pushed Apple to act faster. By 2023, Apple had started working on its large language models behind the scenes.
In 2024, Apple released Apple Intelligence on iPhones, iPads, and Macs. Support is expected to grow in 2025 with more languages and features. Live translation, better image tools, and smarter help are all in the works.
The company is working on new smart tools and still wants to keep user privacy in mind. No one knows exactly how things will go, but it’s clear Apple is finally moving forward.
