Generative AI has taken the world of creativity and content creation by storm. A single sentence (prompt or command) is enough for the software, and you can compose music, design games, make complete websites, generate and edit videos, and create images from texts in minutes or even seconds. But what the actual outcomes or impacts of AI in creative industries are is a topic of discussion. Because as much as artificial intelligence has given an upper hand, it also comes along with a fly in the ointment.

Keep reading to discover something about a new interference in your creative world.

What do you mean by AI in creative industries?

AI in creative industries means the use of machine learning techniques, natural language processing (NLP), and generative AI to help in producing creative content and automate time-consuming repetitive functions.

You can apply it across the fields of music, film, writing, designing, and advertising. These systems are AI models that are trained on vast sets of data to learn from. From this information, they learn to identify patterns and recognize the methods. And generate outputs such as images, texts, audio, and audio-visual.

AI can act as a helping hand or catalyst to human intelligence and creativity, as it needs human guidance and emotional understanding.

Can AI Replace Human Creativity?

The most debatable question is whether artificial intelligence & machines will substitute human creativity? The answer is No.

According to a study conducted by the university’s Minderoo Centre for Technology and Democracy, 51% of novelists said that AI is likely to entirely replace their work, whereas 39% spoke about the fallen income due to Gen AI. Also, many respondents reported that their work is already used to train AI models without their knowledge and consent.

AI expert at Meta, Mayank Sanganeria, said, “Fields like healthcare and education benefit as AI supports human expertise and decision-making. AI will not replace humans but amplify creativity and opportunities.”

One thing we need to understand is that even Gen AI models are trained on already existing data; they simply rearrange old ideas and do not create something new.

Dominika Weglarz, a strategy director in a creative agency in New York, also said that “AI does not replace human creativity, but it can significantly enhance it.”

Therefore, it is clear that artificial intelligence can not replace humans in creativity, but yes one needs to upskill to be better at it. And make use of AI rather than letting AI make use of humans.

AI Tools for Creatives

There is a multitude of AI tools for use in the creative industry, here I have listed one for each different creative purpose.

Midjourney (Image Creation)

Midjourney (Image Creation)
Source: Midjourney

Midjourney is a community-funded research lab with a team of approximately 60 people. It produces the best-looking AI-generated images. Also, their community is great for gaining inspiration.

Midjourney can be used via a web application.

It offers features such as image blending, detail preservation across generations, and matching styles. The images have better textures and colors, and are also intricate and visually appealing.

Midjourney’s major drawback is that every generated image is publicly posted on its explore page by default. It can be viewed by anyone on your profile.

The basic plan starts from $10/month ($8 if billed annually). You can visit the official site for more information.

ElevenLabs (Audio)

It is an all-encompassing tool for AI voice generation with a voice library of over 300+ voices, including licensable AI-powered versions of real people. The voices sound ultrarealistic, human-sounding across several languages and accents.

Some of the features allow you to have granular control over speech parameters, adjust pitch and pace, and even fine-tune with subtle emotional inflections.

You can leverage ElevenLabs as per your need; it can be a casual explainer video, dramatic fiction book narration, or a professional-sounding podcast intro.

It also offers integration with Zapier.

ElevenLabs also has a free version, and the starter plan is from $6/month. Get more info on pricing here.

Claude (For Text)

People tend to use ChatGPT more often for conversational style and day-to-day chatbot interactions, but there is no denying that Claude beats it when it comes to quality writing. It has a natural flow in conversations and offers straight to the point reponses, though more empathetically than ChatGPT. But users I have interacted with also said that Claude is way more technical than ChatGPT.

Some important features are:

  • Artifacts
  • Prompt it to create a dashboard page
  • Create web apps & simple apps
  • Also, it is highly used for coding, a great option for vibe coding

Pricing starts at $20/month billed annually or monthly, though it also offers a free version. Check the detailed pricing structure.

Luma Dream Machine (For Video)

How is AI Impacting Art, Design, and Culture

The use of generative artificial intelligence and machine learning in creative work has led to several new innovations in the field of art, design, and culture. It has given rise to so many new forms of art and design, such as:

  • In Data Painting, AI is trained on vast data from museum archives to produce ever-changing, immersive, and abstract digital sculpture or large-scale installations.
  • Interactive and Real-time art that can respond to viewer movements, environments, and biometric input in real-time.
  • Neural Style Transfer, where the artistic style of one image can be used in the content of another, results in a hybrid aesthetic blending different influences.

As for talking about culture, in my view, AI has given new pathways to bring out art and different cultures in a more resonating way. If today we wish to nurture old traditions and culture in newer generations, it is only possible by making it relatable to them. And AI has become a great tool to do so.

I have come across a song, and its video is only a beautiful ai generated visualizer which clearly shows the jewelry, the environment, and the emotion of the culture. Also, this has allowed a mix and match of different cultures, giving room for exploration. And with the help of the digital-first era, the art is being shared in much faster and broader ways.

Pros and Cons of AI in Creativity

AdvantagesDisadvantages
Increased productivity with more ideas and designs in a shorter time and with less effort.Lacks originality as all outputs are often repetitive and based on patterns.
Brainstorming with tools like Gen AI has become easy and faster. It does use emotions or lived experience, which leads to a lack of deep artistic expression.
Has made tools and directions accessible to all, so even non-experts can create art if they have a nose for it but lack technical expertise. There are several ethical concerns, as AI models may use existing data without the proper permission of the author or creator.
The collaboration of humans and AI has enhanced creativity in several aspectsThere is a high risk of people losing jobs if they don’t adapt and upskill with the growing trend; also, a lot of repetitive work is now being automated.
Several new art forms have emerged with the rise of AI. Creative diversity can be reduced.
Cost efficiency is one of the major advantages of AI.Lack of transparency is a big issue, as many times the use of AI is not disclosed.
Cultural exchange on a global level. It can also lead to a misunderstanding of cultural elements.

We saw a lot of statistics and statements from experts about the positive use of artificial intelligence and how it is a boon for creative industries.

But I have a case study that will highlight the contrasting consequences of the usage of Generative AI.

CASE STUDY

If you are a gaming enthusiast, you must be aware of the Clair Obscur Expedition 33’s generative AI issue. Let’s dig deeper into why Expedition 33 disqualified the award nominations.

The game is developed by Sandfall Interactive and published by Kepler Interactive. The jury considered it for the Indie Game Award’s Game of the Year Award 2025. And gave Expedition 33 top recognition while considering it the first prize winner.

But when on the premieres of the award show, Sandfall Interactive confirmed the use of generative AI in the development phase, the game was disqualified from the run.

Later on, the producer Francois Meurisse stated that they had used “some AI” in the production. Developers used it to create placeholder textures, removed within five days of the game launch, and never intended to include it in the final game.

The panel considered the game to be absolutely amazing, but it was only disqualified due to not fulfilling the criteria of the zero-gen-AI policy.

As of December 2025, Dogubomb’s Blue Prince holds the first position as the awardee.

Conclusion

The generative AI in the creative industries market size is expected to reach a bolstering record of $14.03 billion in 2030, with a CAGR of 27.1%, the use of AI is common and advantageous in many ways. It saves time, resources, and also helps in automation. It has also brought about so many new forms of art and design, and global exchange of cultures. Though the use of technology has its own serious drawbacks that we discussed. I have also listed some AI tools for creatives, as per the need and field. Folks are also concerned about the replacement of humans with AI, but we saw that it is nearly impossible, as artificial intelligence is here to enhance creativity and not to replace it. But people need to upgrade their skills and way of working to stay ahead in this competitive world.
